A great victory to start the year

"I could not ask for a better start into the season," that's how Sergio García described the joy about his triumph at the SMBC Singapore Open, the inaugural tournament of the Asian Tour.

Sergio achieved victory after a top-class performance on a marathon day with very challenging weather conditions of high temperatures and humidity. He played 27 holes on the final Sunday - nine to complete the third round plus a full fourth round.

Bogey-free and only missing two greens and three fairways in the last 36 holes he presented an outstanding performance. Sublime.

Sergio took the lead at the end of the third round and since then dominated the tournament to finish with a five strokes margin to the second place. It is his fourth title in the last 365 days since he won the Omega Dubai Desert Classic. An extraordinary streak that includes the Masters. Among his 30 worldwide victories he won many titles in Asia. Singapore now joins the list of countries in the Far East including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, China and Korea. A true global player.

"I have been practicing for a few weeks before traveling to Singapore, as I felt I had to adapt to the new Callaway material. I came here with confidence and wishing to do well. I was also able to control emotions very well. I have struck the ball very solid all week and I have missed very few shots,“ he said happily.

Sergio finished with a very special dedication: "I have to thank all my team, my family, Angela and my sponsors. They give me all the support and it's great to start the year like this. I am in a great moment of time. I'm happy with everything around me."
