On this coming Thursday Sergio García will play his first tournament after the great victory at the Masters in Augusta. There is no better event to return to competition with 'the Green Jacket in his suitcase' than the PLAYERS Championship. Sergio feels especially comfortable on the tough TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course in Florida and looks forward to competing as a Major champion. He has played the tournament a total of 18 times, finished within the top ten five times and looks back on a fabulous win in 2008. A great record.
However, he course has undergone a major overhaul in the past 18 months with changes made on practically every hole. What stands out is the 12th hole which is now a drivable par 4 – an exciting challenge for players and spectators alike.
Sergio arrives at the tournament after not competing for four weeks, but must feel recharged and full of confidence. He spent the last two weeks practicing at home and now looks forward to getting back on the course.
Garcia will play the first round starting at 13.41 (19.41 Spanish peninsular time) alongside Adam Scott and Matt Kuchar and for the first time in his life he will be announced as „the winner of the Masters, Sergio Garcia“.
By the way, Sergio will play this week and the next two with his professional friend Jose Manuel Lara on his bag. The wife of Glen Murray, Sergio’s regular caddie, just gave birth to a baby girl!
