A nice footnote to a big week

Sergio Garcia has already arrived at the Real Club Valderrama, home of the 1997 Ryder Cup, to kick off one of the most special week of his calendar.

The Spaniard is the host of the Estrella Damm N.A. Valderrama Masters, a tournament of the European Tour taking place in Andalusia, Spain which he has won twice.

His missed cut at the BMW International Open in Munich is past, Sergio is focused to successfully defend his title once again to achieve the hat-trick.An interesting footnote is that exactly 18 years ago Sergio entered the top 5 of the world ranking for the first time.

It was June 24, 2001, the Monday after the Buick Open of the PGA Tour and he managed to stay among the top 5 for a total of 149 weeks – almost three full years of his career. A nice memory in a special week.
