Only a step away from the title

The player from Borriol finished second at Doha Golf Club after a thrilling outcome. Chris Wood sunk an eagle on the 18th and avoided a playoff while joint leaders Sergio García and George Coetzee were waiting in the clubhouse. (Results)

Sergio did not have the best of days from the tee, but he managed to close the tournament with a superb 66 and gave himself a good chance of winning. He had a grandstand finish, making a great birdie on the 14th, one of the most difficult holes of the Doha course, missing two good chances on the 15th and 16th and making them on the 17th and 18th to reach -17 to tie with Coetzee. A playoff seemed to be on the cards, but Wood made a great eagle to end his European Tour title drought.

Anyway, it was Garcia’s first appearance of the season and the second place leaves a good taste in his mouth.

Garcia will play in the Omega Dubai Desert Classic next week and will arrive in Dubai for the third and final event of the European Tour’s Desert Swing.
