Round one for Sergio against the “Monster”

The player from Borriol finished with a bogey-free 66 and shares the top of the leaderboard with Tiger Woods, Graeme McDowell, Fredrik Jacobson and Bubba Watson.

Strong start for him in the second World Golf Championship event of 2013, with a top ten loaded with big names.

Moreover, getting his best round at Doral is not inconsiderable, since up to now he had played 28 rounds with a 68 as his best score (which he got it 8 times). García first set his foot as a pro in this course at the 2005 Ford Championship and managed to score a neat 68 in his first round.

Ever since then, he has played there two Ford Championships and six World Golf Championships from 2007, almost thirty competitive rounds. In the opening round of 2013, Sergio tamed Doral’s Blue Monster and, beyond hia result, the man from Borriol had a superb performance. Sergio played an error-free, exceptional round of golf, hitting almost all the greens and tying for the lead.

Although Sergio is happy with his game, he is still cautious. “It’s been my best round of the year and today I did things I’ve been trying to do for a long time. However, there are still three rounds left, but I hope that, as the new TaylorMade slogan says, my new best round becomes best-ier soon”, said the Spaniard after signing his card.
