Sergio back in the hunt at Doral

The Spaniard is currently tied for fifth place after carding a 67 on Saturday and sharing low-round honors with Tiger Woods, Michael Thompson and Nicolas Colsaerts. Tiger Woods sits atop of the leaderboard at 18 under.

Sergio made six birdies, the highlight of his round a superb birdie on the difficult par-four 18th hole, and only one bogey even though the players faced much tougher conditions than in the first 36 holes. The wind blew strongly, temperatures dropped and the greens were firmer, so it was not only hard getting the ball close to the pin, but merely reaching the green.

Under the circumstances, you have to give credit where credit is due to Sergio’s round after finishing with two great birdies on the 16th and 18th holes and a spectacular par-save on the 17th. After his tee shot went near the base of a tree, the player from Borriol hit a great approach that deserved better luck, but the wind did not catch the ball and afterwards he had to pull a trick from his sleeve to save an unlikely par.

“Today my swing was much better than yesterday, similar to what I did on Thursday. Let’s hope tomorrow I can change my recent trend at Doral”, Sergio explained. From last year’s third round, Sergio always have a bad round after getting a good round at the Blue Monster. “Hopefully it goes good, bad, good, good”.

Tiger Woods is leading the tournament with a four-stroke advantage over Graeme McDowell, five over Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker, and seven over Sergio, Michael Thompson, Charl Schwartzel and Keegan Bradley.

Sergio will start his final round at 2:20 pm (ET), playing again with Michael Thompson.
