Sergio García will play in the Open de España

The player from Borriol returns to an event he wasn’t able to attend in recent years due to his high-demand global schedule. “This confirmation gives me great pleasure. I look forward to playing again the Open de España. For a long time I’ve been trying to put all the pieces together to be in one of my favorite weeks, but it’s been very hard. This year I wouldn’t want to miss it for anything, and I cannot be happier”, said the Borriol player.

García played the Open de España for the last time in 2003 (at Costa Adeje, Tenerife), and this will be the tenth time he plays an event in which he has a great record. On the previous nine occasions (the first three as an amateur) he never missed a cut, and from 1999, his first year as a professional golfer, he always finished in the top 25 and won the 2002 edition (at the Canary Islands).

Sergio is also returning to El Saler, a course he loves. “I’ve always said that it’s one of the best Spanish courses. I am sure the conditions will be perfect and we will enjoy a great show. I encourage all golf fans to come down to Valencia, because they’re going to have the time of their lives”. Sergio already played the Open de España at El Saler in 2001, finishing tied for 16th, 7 shots off the winner Robert Karlsson.
