Sergio made the Blue Monster roar for the last time

Sergio closed the tournament with a splendid 3 under par round of 69, one of the best of a very tough day. The wind blew harder than it did the rest of the week and the greens were firm and very fast. The Spaniard displayed a solid all-around game, although he didn’t feel as well as he felt on Thursday or Saturday.

Sergio made the Blue Monster roar for the last time before next year’s full-scale remodeling of the course. His performance in a four-hole stretch from the 11th was superb, playing it in three under and hitting a plethora of brilliant shots (third at the 11th, third at the 12th, putt at the 13th, second at the 14th, green bunker shot at the 15…). Sergio made the course speak Spanish.

García managed to get a good bogey after hitting it into the water hazard of Doral’s 18th hole, one of the tougher holes of the schedule. Garcia ended sharing the third place after making the last putt for bogey, which made it taste sweeter.

Numbers speak for themselves, since this is Sergio’s seventh top ten in fourteen starts at the WGC Cadillac Championship, an eloquent 50%. “It’s been a week full of positives and there is no reason to be disappointed. The only “but” was the second round, where I let the others gain too much an advantage. Otherwise, I would have fight for the title”, Sergio explained.

Sergio will play next at Tampa Bay and Bay Hill before the Masters, the first major of the year. Tiger Woods (-19) collected the victory with a two-shot lead over Steve Stricker.
