Sergio says goodbye to WGC Accenture

Sergio parred the first five holes in a very close start but committed his first and only bogey of the day in the par-3 sixth to give Kuchar the lead. The player from Borriol answered straight away, winning the ninth hole and squaring this highly entertaining and hard-fought match.

After that, Kuchar got back to 1 up on the par-5 11th and Sergio responded tying the match again on the 13th, another par-5. Both players wouldn’t yield and only Matt Kuchar’s inspiration and lethal putting on Dove Mountain greens tipped the scales in his favor.

The American player birdied the 14th to go 1 up and finished the match with another one on the 17th. García died with his boots on and drained a great putt to halve the 15th hole, and had two birdie chances on 16th and 17th (after a superb shot from a fairway bunker) to extend the game, but couldn’t make them. Match play at its finest, small details made the difference on the greens in favor of the Florida golfer.

Sergio is taking the next week off before returning in ten days at the WGC Cadillac Championship at Doral, Miami.
