Snow stops Sergio in Arizona

Conditions were terrible, with strong winds and snow hitting the players sideways, but the player from Borriol hit a superb tee shot on the par-3 16th hole to give himself a chance to win the match. However, he will have to wait until play resumes on Thursday morning.

“I’ve never seen so much snow in a golf course! Typical Swiss weather, with silver dollar-sized snowflakes!”, said García.

García and Jaidee exchanged blows during the first twelve holes, although the Spanish never trailed. Sergio got ahead a few times, but the Thai player managed to answer until the par-5 13th hole, won by García with a great birdie after an amazing 3-wood from the fairway. Shortly after, García also won the 15th hole with a par after two wayward tee shots.

Sergio still has to close the match to move on to the second round and face the winner of the Hiroyuki Fujita vs. Matt Kuchar match, in which the American is 3 up through 14 holes.
