SERGIO GARCIA

Sergio Garcia was born in Borriol, a little town in the east coast of Spain near Castellón, on January 9, 1980. Sergio started playing golf when he was only three years old under the supervision of Víctor García, his father, teacher and mentor. Victor quickly realized that he showed an immense talent for the game. Víctor, a former professional golfer himself, coached at Club de Campo del Mediterraneo (Borriol). There, he guided his son’s career closely watched by Consuelo, Sergio’s mother, who at the time managed the club’s pro-shop. At just 15 years old, Sergio made the cut in a European Tour event and at 17 years old, he won a professional tournament, the Catalan Open as an amateur. At age 19, he turned pro.

SERGIO GARCIA

Garcia found his place among the best very quickly. That same year, he made international headlines at the PGA Championship at Medinah Country Club, hitting an incredible shot from an awful lie behind a tree on the 16th hole and managed to get the ball to the green – remembered all around the world. That same year, he qualified for the 1999 Ryder Cup after only a few months of competition. Garcia took the golfing world by storm – earning him the nickname “El Niño”.

Since then, Sergio has had a brilliant career. He has been in the OWGR top 10 for 379 weeks and winning tournaments all over the globe. In 2017, Sergio’s career was crowned by his first Major title when he won the Masters Championship at Augusta National on the birthday of his idol, Seve Ballesteros.

Sergio lives, breathes and bleeds Ryder Cup, and was a member of the European Ryder Cup team from 1999 through 2020 (in 2010 as vice captain) and has won the Ryder Cup with the European Team six times. He holds the record for being the European Team’s all-time leading points scorer, having amassed 25.5 points over his four decades of competing in the biennial event.

Besides golf, Sergio loves sports and enjoys playing tennis or football whenever he has some spare time. Garcia is also an avid Real Madrid supporter and was invited to take the honorary kickoff for El Clásico (between Real and archrival FC Barcelona) at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu wearing his green jacket after his Masters victory 2017.

Sergio has recently become more involved in the field of course design, with his first project was realized in 2008. Currently golf courses in Mexico and Portugal are being developed with his designs.

SERGIO IS BACK

October, 5th 2020

Sergio Garcia has won the 2020 Sanderson Farms Championship with a birdie on the 72th hole. It is his 11th victory on the PGA Tour, the 38th of his career, the first he has achieved after turning 40, the first his young son Enzo was able to witness – a very special triumph for many reasons. But it is also a reward for all the hard work over last few month. Sergio is back in the winner’s circle and has proven that he is still able to compete on highest levels.

SERGIO HAS RECORDED HIS THIRD BEST RUN OF HIS CAREER AT HILTON HEAD

June, 24th 2020

Sergio Garcia has finished the RBC Heritage, the second tournament on the PGA Tour after the coronavirus hiatus, with a great achievement. He has been able to squeeze his great golf at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head and has fought for victory until the last hole, with a fantastic sequence of three consecutive birdies in the final stretch of the tournament.

He finally finished in fifth position with a cumulative total of -19. Sergio chained three rounds of 65 strokes on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, a fantastic streak that had only been achieved twice before in his career, at the Deutsche Bank Championship in 2013 and the Castelló Masters in 2011.

THE MASTERS

A third round score of 70 on Saturday he was still in potion to win the tournament, sharing the lead with Justin Rose.

Sergio battled Justin Rose for 18 holes on Sunday, both finishing in regulation at -9. A play-off would decide the winner. Sergio took advantage and sealed the victory with a birdie in 18 to win the Masters and thius his first major championship.
